Ryan Mack PhD Candidate in Sociology

Ryan is a graduate student in sociology who studies gender, sexuality, cultural sociology, social theory, freedom, emancipation, and emotions.  As a sociologist, Ryan is particularly interested in the social conditions necessary for grassroots ways of being to generate good social relations across analytic levels. His research investigates dynamics, qualities, practices, and pleasures that might circulate in the interpersonal realm to generate and enhance human connection. This has led him to a dissertation project on stand-up and improv comedy as possible methods for dissolving problematic social boundaries and cultivating delight, surprise, and reciprocity.
