Marie Laperriere PhD Candidate in Sociology

Marie is a fourth year in the Department of Sociology. Her research interests include gender and sexuality, inequality, feminist politics, and gender-based violence. Her dissertation looks at the meanings and purposes of violence inside intimate relationships. Marie is particularly interested in better understanding the ways in which individuals mobilize different social identities to make sense of their use of violence or experiences as victims. She also examines the role of perpetrators programs in the state’s disciplinary project and how they serve as tools to regulate gender identities.
