Kiyona Brewster Ph.D. Candidate, Sociology

Kiyona Brewster is a Ph.D. candidate in the Sociology program at Northwestern University where she is also pursuing a certificate in Gender studies and Graduate teaching. Her research interests include race, gender, religion, family studies, and qualitative methods. Her dissertation is an ethnographic analysis of the moral frameworks that exist in defining contemporary family life within predominantly African American Protestant and Evangelical communities of faith. In particular her work examines how such frameworks are formed, reproduced, and reconciled with the exigencies of modern life.
